Domaine Viret Cosmic Wine
Domaine Viret Cosmic Wine comes from a spectacular hillside site in the Rhone Valley, just 25 miles north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Domaine Viret Cosmic Wine is produced by the cosmoculture technique at Saint Maurice sur Eygues. Domaine Viret vineyard is a bit hard to find but the wine contains all the elements of this countryside. Domaine Viret Cosmic Wine is the only known example of wine produced by “cosmoculture”.
At Domaine Viret Cosmic Wine they are using a winegrowing and winemaking technique they call “Cosmoculture”. No matter what they call it and what they believe in they are down to earth and very capable winemakers. They are using biodynamic methods on their 50 hectare estate with some very old vines. Grapes are hand picked and the first selection process begins there. They use light crushing and long maceration (30 days plus) and bottle without filtration, fining or the use of sulphur.
According to the Domaine Viret website cosmoculture is a form of natural agriculture which joins together the fundamental principles of biological and biodynamic cultures. It opens new horizons on forgotten ancestral principles
Whether the “cosmic” principles – like standing stones in the vineyard to capture the energy of the planets – is helpful to the winemaking, who knows? Try a bottle and decide for yourself.
